The Truth Hurts Book Review
Hey bookworms! Hope you're all doing well! Today I'm going to review The Truth Hurts by Rebecca Reid. This is an adult thriller/romance of sorts...Let's get into it!
The book is told from the past, labelled "Before" and the present. I won't tell you what the past is about, because that will spoil you, but it's a main character's past. In the present we have one of our main characters named Poppy. She's young, pretty, and a nanny. Well she was a nanny, until she gets fired one night. Poppy then meets Drew, a handsome, distinguished, and wealthy man. They have a whirlwind romance and next thing you know, Poppy is married to Drew.
Everything seems perfect to her, Drew is wonderful, caring, rich, and handsome. Poppy has no more worries in life and can just be content being cared for and doing what she wants. But there is one stipulation to their relationship that Drew puts in place: no questions are to be asked about either of their pasts. Poppy is totally fine with that in the beginning, but as time goes on, little things start adding up and make her question everything. Who did she really marry?
I gave this book 3.5 stars but rounded up on Goodreads to 4. I thought it was a tad bit predictable, but it was executed well. I liked seeing Poppy and Drew's relationship progress. I liked seeing Poppy settle into her new life and invite her friend Gina to be their "help". The writing was descriptive, the scenery was beautiful (set in Ibiza and England). And the ending took quite a turn, which made me like the book even more. The ending made up for the predictability of the book.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys thrillers or twisted romances. The seasoned thriller reader won't be excited by this, but a newbie might. All in all, a really good read that kept me up at night to finish in two sittings!
