The Woman in the Window Book Review
Hiya bookworms, hope you're all staying safe and sound! Boy, do I have a book for you to read that will help pass the time! Today, I'm reviewing The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn. Let's get into it...
This is a spoiler free review, so don't worry! The Woman in the Window is about a woman named Anna Fox who has agoraphobia and finds it nearly impossible to leave her home in NYC. She spends the days watching old black and white movies, drinking a little too much wine, and keeping tabs on her neighbors. Not in a creepy way or anything, Anna Fox is a loveable character. To keep things simple and spoiler free...Anna happens to witness an incident and sets off to solve what happened even with everyone telling her that she's wrong.
Let's get into why I love this book so much. First, the writing style is amazing. It's blunt, yet gentle. Certain phrases pop out at you, begging you to remember them. Anna Fox's internal dialogue had me laughing at times and sobbing at other times. She's an amazing, multi-faceted character and I would defend her til my last breath if she were a real person. There's plot twists and turns and although I saw the main one coming, it didn't take away the enjoyment or thrill of the book.
The most important part of the book I think is how the author gave an honest and compassionate look into mental illness. I suffer with a variety of mental illnesses and I completely loved how he talked about it in this book. There was no shock value or scare or gore, which I appreciate. It's rare you find an honest and accurate portrayal of a character with mental illness.
Overall I give this book 4.5 stars and I'll definitely be reading A.J. Finn's next book whenever it is published. He's a real talent and I'm shocked this is his debut. If you enjoy thrillers or not, I think either type of person would enjoy this book. Because at its heart, it's a book about one very strong and resilient woman. Who doesn't love that?
