Why I'm Starting an Art Journal & Supplies Haul!

Good Afternoon everyone! Today I wanted to dedicate a whole post as to why I'm starting an art journal and my supplies haul for art journaling! Let's get into it!

I'll start with the supplies first...now I've got a TON of washi tape, stickers, markers, and really just a lot of craft stuff, BUT I needed a few bits to begin art journaling! I headed over to Hobby Lobby and found everything I got on clearance or on sale for half off! Love that!

I got two sticker books: one is Squad Goals by The Happy Planner. This one is super cute, it has a diverse range of girls doing different cute activities. It's a seasonal sticker book and has lots of different stickers for each season. I can use this all year long! That was on sale for $5 with it normally being $20.

The other sticker book I got is just called Sticker Book by Sticko. Again, this was on sale for $5 with it normally being $20. This is a cute, bright pastel floral theme, very girly and very fun! I also picked up a pack of pineapple paperclips for 99 cents!

The Paper Studio was on sale for 50% off, so I grabbed two of their paper kits, one mermaid themed and one stargazer themed. They each come with pads of paper, stickers, ephemera, and are prepped and ready to go for scrapbooking or journaling! I'll do posts for when I use those paper kits because they're so handy and cool!

So why am I getting into art journaling? Well, I've always loved art and have done art, except for the past few months due to depression and feeling bleh. Sometimes it's very intimidating staring at a blank page or canvas and trying to create a masterpiece with it. That was definitely putting me off from doing art. Well, then I came across art journaling on YouTube and I watched different artists put together collages, sketches, stickers, and ephemera into little works of art in sketchbooks and adding bits of writing into about a theme or just journaling the day.

I thought "what a great idea!" and promptly watched more art journaling videos and looked up spreads and prompts on Pinterest. This is an easy and accessible way for me to do art without psyching myself out or overwhelming myself.

I'm also doing it for mental health reasons: to make myself productive and happy, lessen my anxiety and stress, and document my moods and behaviors. All good things!

Are you into art journaling? Or just journaling in general? I'd love to hear your experiences with it! I'm off to start working in mine! Hope you're all doing well and I'll talk to ya soon :)
