Radioactive Evolution Book Review

***I was sent this book for free to review! All opinions are my own***

Hey y'all! Today I have an exciting book review! I was sent Radioactive Evolution by Richard Hummel for free in exchange for a review! I'm very excited to talk about this book and give it my full and honest opinion. Let's get into it!

Radioactive Evolution by Richard Hummel is a Post-Apocalypse, LitRPG genre book. What is LitRPG you might ask? Basically, it's a book written in the style of a role playing video game! So if you love gaming like me, I highly recommend you check this book out.

The book is set in a nuclear wasteland of a world, where few people have survived and must fight each day to live. However, the wealthy have built floating islands in the sky and ocean where advanced technology is abundant and paradise occurs.

Our main character is a man named Jared Cartwright and he has been out on his own for a couple of years after leaving his colony because his parents both died. Jared spends his days searching for weapons and injectors, both of which are important for survival. Injectors have things called nanites in them and the nanites help feed off of the radiation in the human body. This helps the humans in the nuclear wasteland survive and not succumb to radiation poisoning. If you go too long without nanites, you die.

We find Jared exploring what was once New York City. He comes upon a giant nest of some sort and an egg that gives off an electric feeling. He decides to take the egg and inject it with nanites in an experiment. Well, guess what hatches out of the egg? A dragon! A little baby dragon who is extremely intelligent and communicates through telepathy with Jared. Jared and the dragon bond together and he learns her name is Sildrainen or, Scarlet! Scarlet and Jared go to meet Scarlet's mother, Alestrialia who is Queen of the Fire Dragons. She charges Jared with protecting Scarlet with his life and shows how together, Jared and Scarlet can defeat enemies and absorb nanites to then assign to different abilities they have. The more enemies they defeat, the stronger and more advanced they'll become.

The mother and daughter dragon duo also show Jared the history of dragons and how they went into hiding 3,000 years ago. There are fire dragons, water dragons, earth dragons, and ice dragons. It is now up to Jared and Scarlet to grow strong and bring back dragons to the new world and make it possible for humans and dragons to peacefully exist together.

From then on, the story is one wild ride defeating enemies, making allies, and finding out just how evil the wealthy people are in this world. I absolutely love Scarlet; she's so sassy, feisty, yet sweet and caring. I love the bond she and Jared have together and how they tease each other and look out for each other at all times. I absolutely love Jared. He isn't like your typical rough and tough, macho man, post-apocalyptic character. Jared has a big heart and kind soul and refuses to kill innocent people. The world hasn't made him jaded or mean and that's a great thing to see in a character. It's a breath of fresh air!

I love the world building and descriptions of the beasts that now roam the earth. The story flows really nicely and is easy to follow once you get the basics down about nanites and abilities. The author does a great job of explaining everything clearly without dumping a ton of information into your head and overwhelming you.

I'm giving this book 4.5/5 stars. There were some editing and typo mistakes, but it doesn't detract from the reading experience. This book is my new favorite Post-Apocalyptic series; it's such a unique concept and the characters are so easy to love and root for throughout the journey! I'm definitely going to be reading the rest of the series and I can't wait to see more of what the author has in store for the books!

If you like Post-Apocalyptic books, video games, sassy dragons, and strong characters, I HIGHLY recommend you read this! I think you'll love it as much as I do!
