Difference Between Simple Living & Minimalism
I love fresh flowers to simply decorate a room :) (taken from my 24th birthday)
Happy Sunday afternoon everyone! I hope you all are having a nice, relaxing day and recharging for the new week ahead. I'm feeling much more myself today after a great sleep and using my aromatherapy diffuser. I just got done working out and felt inspired to write!
The other day I mentioned there was a big difference between simple living and minimalism so I thought I'd touch base about that today! So what is minimalism exactly? It started out as a movement to clear out clutter and unnecessary possessions and has slowly evolved into a lifestyle of less is more. I have nothing against minimalism; it just simply isn't for me. I don't like how it's turned into more of an aesthetic (bare white walls, white everything, NO decor, plain old blah) and a competition ("I only own 2 shirts and 1 skirt!") Nope, that's so not for me.
Simple living is my chosen path. It's a focus not on diminishing your decor and possessions and being "aesthetically pleasing", but on living simply! Owning only things that you love, cherish, or are useful to you. Decorating only with what you love and makes you happy. Taking time to roast a chicken and bake some homemade cookies and enjoying the simply act of cooking. Rising in the morning with the sun. Going to the beach and relishing the sound of the waves. That is simple living. That is where I fit in and what I love.
If you're looking for some good books on a simple living lifestyle, I HIGHLY recommend "Simple Abundance" and "Romancing the Ordinary" both by Sarah Ban Breathnach. These books literally changed my life and way of thinking and living and I LOVE them! Please check them out if you're on a simple living journey as well and need some wonderfully written guidance.
Short, simple, and sweet, that's today's post! I think I'm going to do some bible journaling now and color a bit. Gotta be creative! I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the day and
I'll see y'all tomorrow!
