A Certain Hunger Book Review

Hey everyone, in today's post, I am going to be reviewing A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G. Summers. This book was a wild ride so let's just get right into it!

A Certain Hunger is a book whose genre I am not quite sure how to classify. Horror? No. Thriller? No. Dark Contemporary fiction it is then! Our main character is a fabulous food critic named Dorothy. She's confident, smart, cultured...and also a serial killer cannibal. How's that for an introduction? I want to be blunt; this book will not be for everyone. There's a lot of dark themes here and triggers. However, if that doesn't bother you, I think you will enjoy this gem of a book!

The author is so talented in writing the most beautiful and lyrical descriptions (sometimes they lean more graphic and gross but lyrical all the same). Imagery fills this book, you can quickly picture something write off the bat that she describes. I loved how duality is so prevalent in this book...how you can be "this" but also be "that". Her friendship with the artist Emma, wow I loved that and how it turned out. The last two chapters of the book were my favorite and blew me away. The ending was perfect, as was the beginning and middle.

I gave this book a full five stars, it's a definite reread and favorite for me. In fact, this book is a favorite since reading this whole year AND last! I absolutely loved the author's writing style and can't wait to see what else she comes out with! Highly recommend this book, but only if the triggers of death, murder, rape, cannibalism, assault, and graphic imagery don't bother you.
