Short Lit Fic -Library Book Haul-

Hiya bookworms! I'm back with a library book haul & mini review of some short literary fiction novels! I finished 2 of these books, DNF 1, and am in the middle of the other 3 so let's chat about it! I highly recommend short lit fic if you need to meet a reading goal or want something short but sweet that packs a punch.

The first book we'll talk about is Assembly by Natasha Brown. This was a debut novel and WOW did it impress me. This book is about a Black woman living in London and the obstacles and racism she encountered while building her very successful career. There's a significant plot twist that made me gasp and the ending stayed with me for days. Loved this book, gave it 4 stars, I just wish it had been a tad bit longer!

Next is We Had To Remove This Post by Hanna Bervoets. This is the story of a moderator for a social media site and her experience encountering horrific pieces of online media and how she is dealing with that. I haven't read much of this yet but it's going to be good I bet.

Now, here's a disappointment. The Promise by Silvina Ocampo. This was SO short and SO boring and disjointed and just random. I DNF it not very much into the book because I just despised the writing style. It's about a woman who goes overboard off a ship into the ocean and her random thoughts while floating. Just wasn't worth my time.

I also finished The Cook by Maylis de Kerangal. This is a short and sweet little book about a chef's passion for cooking and his travels around the world. He was French so a lot of the book took place there, but there were other countries too. I wish the setting descriptions had been as lovely as the food descriptions were, but I gave it 4 stars because I did enjoy it overall.

The other book I'm in the middle of reading is Malagash by Joey Cameau. This is about a daughter dealing with the death of her father and turning audio transcripts of his voice into a computer virus so he "lives" on. So far, it's very sad, very interesting, and kind of beautiful in a depressing way. I like it!

The Employees by Olga Ravn is a book I have not started yet and all I know is that it's based on a piece of sculpture art and about employees accounts of dealing with some sort of machine? Not entirely sure, but excited to read such a unique little book!

That's my little library book haul, hope you enjoyed!
