Please See Us Book Review -The Best Thriller I Read in 2023-

Hello bookworms, today I'm coming at you with a thriller book review! Not just any thriller book review, but the very best thriller I've read all of 2023!!! I hope you enjoy and let's get into it!

I recently read and finished Please See Us by Caitlin Mullen. This thriller came out a few years ago and it's the author's debut. I am just now getting to review this book months later, but it's so good that it needs its due!!

So, this thriller follows multiple POVs with the two main characters being Clara, a psychic on the Atlantic City boardwalk and Lily, a young woman escaping from the art world in NYC to rebuild her life back home in Atlantic City. In Atlantic City, women have been going missing, with people suspecting a serial killer on the loose. Clara starts getting visions of the missing women and together Clara and Lily team up to figure out wtf is going on. The story takes off from there.

I'm not going to tell you anymore of the plot so I don't spoil anything, but this was SUCH an amazing thriller story. So much is going on, but not in a confusing way. It's all plainly laid out in front of you and the characters' growth that they go through is amazing. I loved Clara's tarot readings and psychic visions, as well as Lily's flashbacks to the art world in NYC. I loved the setting of Atlantic City, a once vibrant fun place but is now decaying and dying slowly.

You get a sense of being trapped with Clara and Lily in this dump and looking behind your back for a serial killer following your tracks. It touches on underage prostitution as well as just regular prostitution, please do be aware of that as a trigger warning. I absolutely loved some of the POVs were from the Jane Does, the murdered women. It was absolutely haunting, just like the book title: Please See Us. The Jane Does just wanted to be found, seen, laid to proper rest, and get justice for their wrongful deaths. It broke my heart reading their points of view.

I gave this book a full five stars and it's now a total favorite of mine. I plan to reread it in the coming years. I fell in love with the main characters, the plot, the subplot (following mysterious paintings by an unknown artist), the setting (a once beautiful city now decaying is so hauntingly lovely), and the ending was just amazing. I LOVED it. If you want solid and completely thorough answers, then this is not the book for you. You will not get them. But if an air of mystery appeals to you, you'll love it. This is one of the top thrillers I've ever read and I can't wait to read more by this author as soon as she publishes another book! Happy Reading and until next time, have a groovy day!
