Three Book Reviews!

Hey bookworms! I'm back with three book reviews today! Two are historical fiction ebooks that I picked up for free about a year ago, so if you're interested in them, double check and see if they're still free! The other book is physical that I bought in a Throne of Glass box set! Let's get into it!

The first book I read was Finding Her Way by Leah Banicki. This is a Christian historical romance set in the 1800's on the Oregon Trail. It's about a young woman, Corinne, and her journey from Boston, to the Oregon Trail, and ultimately, to Oregon to settle with her father (who has already made the journey).

First off the bat, even though this is a Christian book, it's not at all "preachy" so even if you're not Christian, I think you would enjoy it! Corinne is an amazing character and so smart and strong, for only being 17 years old. She has an incredible knowledge of plant medicine and healing and she helps the wagon train immensely with her healing skills.

I loved seeing her journey on the Oregon Trail and of her growth. I loved the ending too; it was very sweet and happy, just what I needed to read. The descriptions are fantastic and you learn quite a bit about the Oregon Trail and plant medicine from this book. I can tell the author did their research!

I gave this 5 full stars and am very excited to continue reading this journey. I have already downloaded the second book, in fact lol! Highly recommend this if you like historical romances, pioneering, and strong women.

The other book I read was Ishtah: The Prostitute's Daughter by Elle Hanning. Unfortunately I gave this book a generous two stars. I did not like this book at all. The setting and time period was interesting since it's Assyrian. The main character is Ishtah and her mother is a prostitute. Literally the whole book is Ishtah complaining about being her mother's slave, about her mother being a prostitute, and about Ishtah being embarrassed and sick of her life.

That's literally all the book is about. It drags on and on, there's really no plot, and it's so boring. I was really disappointed since I think there was a lot of potential, but it totally failed that. I'm not too sad though, since I did get this for free.

The third book I read was a novella called The Assassin and the Pirate Lord from The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas.

This was the first time I ever read anything by Sarah J Maas! I know, I know, I'm late to the bandwagon lol, but here I finally am! I really enjoyed this novella and was impressed with the author's worldbuilding within just a little novella.

The novella starts out with an elite assassin named Celaena and her fellow assassin, Sam are sent by Arobynn (King of the Assassins) to the Pirate Lord for payment and retribution for the murder of assassins by pirate hands.

The Pirate Lord, Rolfe, is a very interesting character, much like you'd expect a pirate to be: cocky, swarthy, clever, and deadly. I hope to read more about him in the future of the series. He lives in Skull's Bay, a pirate territory, which the author did a great job of describing that setting of pirates and mayhem.

Celaena and Sam, however, decide to deviate from the plan that Arobynn laid out. When Celaena finds out that Rolfe is shipping captured slaves out on ships, she forms a plan to save the slaves and distract Rolfe. From there, chaos ensues. I won't spoil the ending.

I thought this novella was really well written and exciting. I'm a sucker for books with pirates in them, so this was awesome to me. I really enjoy Sarah J Mass' writing style and can't wait to read more in this world.

4 stars to this novella and I will continue on with the book!

That's all the reviews I have today y'all! I hope you all enjoyed and maybe check out a few of the books! Talk to you soon!
