Mini Book Reviews of Fortune's Child and An Ignorance of Means
Hey bookworms! I finally finished a few books after not reading anything all of February so I wanted to do mini book reviews of what I read! Let's get into it!
The first book I read was Fortune's Child: A Novel of Empress Theodora by James Conroyd Martin. This was about Empress Theodora (obviously) who reigned over Constantinople with Emperor Justinian in the 500's. I love reading and learning about Theodora, she's an absolutely fascinating person in history. I gave this book 3 stars because it was a solid good read. I loved reading this author's perspective and imagining of Theodora. The settings were lush and descriptive and Theodora was strong as always! But I did take stars away because the author also wrote of Stephen's point of view (he was Theodora's scribe and personal secretary of sorts). I didn't care about Stephen's story at all...I wanted to read only about Theodora. Oh well, I still enjoyed the book. A sequel is coming out, hopefully soon, and will elaborate more on Theodora's reign since that got rushed at the end. I will be reading it!
The second book I read was An Ignorance of Means by Jennifer Oakley Denslow. This is a historical fiction novel about a young woman named Catherine and her marriage to a man she barely knows. I won't go into spoilers, but this book is a wild ride into many depressing situations. However, there is a happy ending, so look forward to that. I loved how strong and resilient Catherine is. I gave this also a 3 star rating because it's well written with nice descriptive imagery and settings. I enjoyed it but not enough to read it over again.
Those are my mini book reviews! Overall some good reads! I'll talk to y'all again soon!
