A Mad, Wicked Folly Book Review
Hey y'all! I have a book review for you today! Today's book is A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller. This is a Young Adult historical fiction set in the Edwardian era in England. Vicky Darling is our main character; she's a young woman who absolutely loves art and is trying to figure out who she is and what she wants in life. You'll follow her on her escapades in enrolling in art college, working on her craft, befriending suffragettes and getting involved in women's rights, and falling in love with a boy outside of her upper middle class system.
I really loved following Vicky's story and I really identified with her and her struggle to become her own woman and figure out her identity. I loved her passion for art and learning about the Pre-Raphelites. I especially loved seeing her character development and growth when it came to her support for women's rights.
A few things I wish happened in the book: more world building. I didn't really get a good "feel" of Edwardian England. I wanted more description of the fashion and atmosphere. I felt the ending was a bit rushed and wished we had seen more of independent Vicky. Because of this, I gave the book 4/5 stars. It's a really good read and Vicky is a wonderful character! I recommend this book if you love art, learning more about the beginning of women's suffrage, and a peek into Edwardian life.
