An excerpt from my poem "Always Anxious", the first in my collection of mental health poems
Whew, long time no see! Well, less than a week but still. I took a bit of a break from writing, art, and blogging the past few days. I spent a lot of time with family and coloring and bible journaling :) I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day, mine was special. My family and I went to the military cemetery where my grandpa rests at and we paid our respects to him and the other soldiers laid to rest there. It's a huge place and really lovely. Every single of the 400,000 gravestones had a flag in honor of Memorial Day. Pretty incredible to see.
I've been busy doing some redecorating and planning for my room decor, which I'm excited about. Yesterday was particularly fun (after I went to the dentist lol) me and my mom got some goodies at Michael's and went to see Overboard at the movies. It was actually a pretty cute movie, I liked it :)
So first on the agenda, I wanted to share the excerpt of my "Always Anxious" poem I wrote, which I posted above. You really should be following me on instagram *cough cough* (@damedeloisirs) so you can see right away all the poem excerpts I post and finished artwork AND other delightful things I find! Anyway, "Always Anxious" is about my struggle with anxiety from childhood and how everyone struggling with it is a warrior fighting that battle.
I'm currently working on a collection of poetry detailing my mental health journey and struggles with general anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, major depression, and schizoaffective disorder. I'm so excited to be starting this project and I really hope people enjoy it too :) I hope it breaks down the stigma of mental health and lets people know that they aren't alone in their struggles.
Well, that's about it for today. I've got to do some writing and put the finishing touches on a painting and who knows what else. I hope y'all are enjoying this week and the last few days of May! Take care!
Alette
